Yes it is, and here is why fabric weight, structure, and local production matter in the making of our 20 oz French Terry hoodie.

I get the question often of how we decide on certain weights of our fabrics across the board for everything that we manufacture. When we create a piece for the collection, the overall idea starts with fit, look, and fabric in the initial creative process.
You can have the best fit and pattern, but if you choose the wrong fabric, that can become a huge issue in the final product. The unfortunate truth is that fabric is one of the most common things to be overlooked or changed to keep the cost low on clothing.
So to answer the question of whether it is necessary to have a 20 oz custom made French Terry fabric for our hoodies, yes it sure is.
The most important part of our hoodie fabric is that it is a locally custom loomed French Terry. Most hoodies and blanks out there are made from fleece. Fleece is still a great fabric, but it is a cheaper fabric while being heavier, and it does not move or feel as great as French Terry does.
We went a step further and created our own fabric years back with a local knitting house in Los Angeles. That allows us to design the exact feel, starch, and weight of the fabric specific to what we want our customers to experience.
The perfect hoodie to me is a medium weight French Terry hoodie that will break in and adapt to you with wash and wear. In order for the hoodie to retain a great shape over the years, that is where the starch of the cotton and the weight come in.
In the past, we custom made our French Terry to be 16 oz and softer. After years of running that fabric, we decided to update the fabric and fit to be more structured in both feel and shape.
Our new 20 oz French Terry hoodie is loomed, dyed, and finished in Los Angeles from start to finish. We chose to go with a mix of starchy cotton and matched that with a 20 oz weight in French Terry.
This gives you a feeling similar to what a raw pair of jeans might feel like initially. You have to live in it for a few days to weeks to make it fit and feel like it was made for you.
The fit was updated to a slightly shorter body with more room in the arms and body.

We chose two color and finishing wash styles to start with our new hoodie released earlier this year. The first is the Oil Dye finish.
This is a two stage dyed and coated process that is all done by hand. We first dye the entire hoodie a vintage dark postal blue, then apply a hand coated oil dye coating over the entire hoodie.
The oil dye color is a dark brown and black colored coating that is meant to fade and break in visually over time with wear and wash.
The other option is our developed Worn and Bleached finish. This is our classic black potassium wash that is done piece by piece and all by hand.
We developed a black standard for our hoodies and tees, and the hoodie gets the added treatment of bleach potassium spray to age it perfectly.
Both of our hoodies are wash and hang dry suggested, and both are fully pre shrunk.
No matter which hoodie you choose, we feel this new updated fit and fabric will work nicely on your body for years to come.
Enjoy your Friday and have a great weekend everyone.
